How to get to Granada

Granada

The best options for getting to Granada are to fly directly to Granada, or to fly to Málaga (136 kms from Granada) and then take a bus Málaga-Granada. It is also possible to fly to Madrid or Barcelona, and then fly Madrid-Granada or Barcelona-Granada.

Flying directly to Granada (GRX):

There are several daily international flights to Madrid, Barcelona, and Palma de Mallorca. So usually people prefer to fly to one of these three locations and then book a direct flight from Madrid, Barcelona, or Palma de Mallorca to Granada. In addition, there are direct flights from London and Milan to Granada. See information below.

Granada airport is located 16 kilometers away from Granada city. On arrival you can get a taxi from the airport. Taxis are situated at the arrivals area of the airport and it costs about 30 € to get to the city centre.

At the arrivals area of the airport, there is a direct line bus from the airport to the city center. The ticket costs 2,90 € (can be purchased directly from the bus driver) and lasts 25 minutes approximately. You can visit www.alsa.com to see the timetable and to buy tickets online. Bus stops from Granada airport to the Palacio de Congresos (EASP General Meeting Venue):

Airport – Bus station - La Caleta - Avenida de la Constitución (2 stops) – Gran Vía (2 stops) – Acera del Darro - Palacio de Congresos.

Flying directly to Málaga (AGP):

Malaga – Costal del sol Airport has more than 70 international destinations from all over the world in addition to its national connections (you can see the airlines and their destinations http://www.aena.es/en/malaga-airport/airport-destinations.html).

Malaga is the nearest international airport and is only 90 minutes from Granada by car/bus. Flying to Malaga is the easiest option to reach Granada.

Getting from Málaga Airport to Granada by bus:

You can get a bus from Málaga airport to Granada bus station:

It leaves every day at 8:30 am, 10:45 am, 11:30 am, 16:00 pm, and at 20:45 pm. It takes two and a half hours. The price is between 11.43 € and 14.72 €. Due to high demand because of the touristic season at Málaga it is highly recommended to buy tickets online in advance by visiting www.alsa.com. We agreed with ALSA Company that they will have buses available at these times if people book them at least 10 days in advance. Also, if you arrive to Malaga later than 20:00 it is likeable you are not going to be able to take the last bus from the airport at 20:45. Getting from Málaga airport and bus station to Granada by bus:

There is a shuttle bus (Line A) which connects Málaga Airport with Málaga city bus station. The single fare is 3 € and you can buy the ticket on the bus. The journey takes about 15 minutes. The bus stop is on the arrivals forecourt of Terminal 3 and the buses run every 30 minutes from 6:25 am to 23:30.

You can also get a suburban train (C1) (every 30 minutes, from 6.44 am to 00:24, ticket 1.70 €) or a taxi (about 20 €) from the airport to Málaga bus station (estación de autobuses).

There is a bus almost every hour from Málaga bus station to Granada from 8:00 am until 21:30 pm. The price is 11,43 €. It takes about 1:45 h (128 km) to get to Granada. If your flight lands after the 21:30 bus departure, you can sleep inMálaga, or hire a car, or get a taxi (a taxi from Málaga to Granada is about 150 € on weekdays and 174 € on weekends). Note that the option to take a taxi is affordable if you take it together with 3 or 4 more persons.

Getting from Málaga in a rented car:

Most companies have pick-up and drop-off points at Málaga airport, Granada airport and in the centre of Granada. Average prices are about 36 €/day for the economic option.

Getting to Granada by train:

At this moment, the Granada train station is under remodeling works. Trains arrive to the station of Antequera and then a shuttle bus (included in the train ticket) takes you to Granada. Trains take 4 and a half hour from Madrid Atocha Rail Station, and 3 hours from Seville. Visit www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/ to check the timetables and prices although we do not recommend this option, is not the best to get to Granada.

Getting to Granada by bus:

The bus station is not in the city centre and you will need to get a taxi or a bus to get to the city centre.

If your flight lands in Madrid you will need to go to "Estación del sur" Bus Station (Méndez Alvaro station metro station, connected with the airport by metro). There are 14 daily buses from the “Estación del Sur” and only one from the Madrid airport at 1:45 am to Granada. It takes about 5 hours from Madrid to Granada and costs 18,78 € (the cheapest one).

Driving to Granada

It takes about 5 hours from Madrid, 2 hours and a half from Seville, 11 hours from Barcelona, and 90 minutes from Málaga.
